Meet the Maker

Hi, my name is Ray Frost. I'm a screen printer, illustrator, painter, zinester, and comic artist. I've been drawing as long as I can remember and screen printing and painting since I was in high school. My art is my primary source of income and what brings joy and purpose to my life. I'm a Northern Nevada native and my work heavily features the high desert landscape, wildlife, and flora as it's subjects. I deeply love this desert because I find so much beauty in the resilience of it's inhabitants. There's a special kind of magic in being able to survive in a seemingly inhospitable place. My work centers on love, grief, cultural mythologies, and interconnection. My work is also meant to be a celebration of life. While much of my subject matter involves death, I intend to remind the viewer that life is too short, so we should pursue the things that make us happy. My work is meant to covey the idea that all life is interconnected and that honoring this connection through loving each other is the purpose of us being here.

Zeppy Stardust Studios is what I call the place where I make and sell my art. I wanted to give the space where I share my work it's own name, since I think of it as a creative space that exists within me, but also as somewhere larger where people get to glimpse into me. I would love for Zeppy Stardust Studios to one day be a physical community art space where I can share the parts of myself and encourage other artists to do the same. I named it after my beloved cat, Zeppy, who was the first thing I drew when I started making art again after an eight year hiatus.  He has since passed away, but lives on in my work and in the immense love that goes into it. 

Every item on this site has some of that love in it and I hope you can find something that resonates with you to carry with you as a talisman of the magic of the high desert and the love that keeps me alive.
